McAfee vs. AVG??

I have a new Dell system. It came with McAfee package (free for awhile and
then I would have to subscribe).

Two questions: Is AVG just as good and if it is, can I just uninstall McAfee
through the add/remove programs in order to stop its annoying pop-up???

Yes and yes it does not have the anoying pop-up promoting other
applications.
