Is there a way to completely deactivate the automatic mcafee security center
update engine that comes with Dell computers? (mcupdate.exe)
That little window that appears every time is one of the most annoying
things I've ever seen, it even interrrupts other programs when you are
playing fullscreen. I deactivated the service, and also erased the registry
value in the registry HKLM / Run. However, when i turn on the computer, that
registry value is created again. Where else can I look to get rid of it?
Does this run as part of windwows automatic updates?

thanks,

guillermo

If you are going to use McAfee's antivirus/security stuff, you must have
the updater running. An antivirus is worse than useless without
up-to-the-minute virus definitions. It is "worse than useless" because
you have a false sense of security that you are protected.

If you do not wish to use McAfee, purchase another full-featured
antivirus before you uninstall McAfee. Remove the computer from the
Internet, uninstall McAfee according to their procedure (check their
site), and then install the replacement antivirus. Make sure you are
protected by a firewall before you connect to the Internet to update
your new av. Lots of people like Kaspersky and NOD32. I use F-Prot on
all my Windows machines.
