The programs that need access are Internet Explorer, Outlook
or Outlook Express, the firewall to get updates, your
anti-virus to get updates, Windows Update, other programs
that you install and schedule or manually run.
You don't want or need to grant unlimited permission to very
many programs. Zone Alarm will detect new or changed
programs and pop up an alert. I use McAfee VS but use the
ZA firewall.

| If you block anything that comes up, then nothing that
goes online will
| work. Normally you should let any known program that
you're purposefully
| using access the Internet. It's the unknown software that
you have to be
| concerned about. If you regularly scan for viruses and run
a spyware check
| you shouldn't have any surprises.
