Professor Joe

one of our students would like to uninstall McAfee and go with a
lighter more efficient program like clamwin.

He completely uninstalled all of McAfee last night (he says) and it
automatically reinstalled this a.m. when he turned his xp machine back
on.

What would you have him do to get rid of McAfee once and for all?

Much thanks, good people :)
Professor Joe

1. Go to McAfee and download the "Removal Tool" to the Desktop for your
McAfee AntiV program... http://ca.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=vrt
OR search the web for "McAfee Removal Tool". You'll be able to find a
program that will remove McAfee 2005,06 and 07.
2. Go to Add/Remove and Uninstall McAfee and Reboot.
3. Run McAfee Removal Tool and Reboot

It's Up To You...
You can also search the Registry for McAfee and delete anything that you
find. Or just wait until the computer starts running slow from all the adding
and removing of Programs and run a Registry Cleaner to save the tax payers
some cash. ;)

Alan's suggestion of the McAfee Removal Tool was perfect. Several
reboots afterward, the coast is clear.....and so is the machine ;)
we thank you!

I just noticed I gave you the link for virus removal tools. Sorry about that,
for anyone else you can copy and paste this link to your address bar and the
"McAfee Removal Tool" for 2005, 06 and 07 file will pop up to be saved to
your Desktop...
http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
OR Search the web for "McAfee Removal Tool".

NOTE: Always be sure to uninstall your McAfee AntiVirus through Add/Remove
Programs FIRST, before running the McAfee Removal Tool.

Its all you need to avoid a toupee.
