i recently installed mandrake linux as a dual boot, now i want to get rid of
linux and its still left with the linux bootloader
both windows and linux were on different partitions, i say were because i
have formatted and deleted the partition linux was on and windows is on E:
and not the C:
can i use fixmbr in the recovery console to repair this? or do i have to
desperately use that dreaded command format with whats ever on the C: boot
partition backed up to another drive

Not for fixing a Lilo boot manager. I have tried using fixmbr and fixboot on
a linux boot manager from restore manager, I can't remember the details, but
I believe I wasn't able to access the linux boot files. It was not
successful as I recall it. Since that excursion into Linux, I never allow
the Linux boot manager to install on the hard drive, I boot to Linux with a
floppy.
The recovery console has a very limited range as far as access to archived
and even current files.
