Make sure the users having problems have the built in
firewall disabled. If you are using CHAP, the
authenticating system may be having trouble "Challenging"
the remote system because the built in XP firewall is
killing the process.

Just a thought.
 
Actually, I have tried that, and it hasn't helped. I also had anyone with
extra firewalls (ZoneAlarm, etc.) disable those as well.

You're right, it definitely seems like a firewall issue, but so far that
hasn't panned out.
