My daughter has a verrrry old PC running Windows 2000 - verrrry slow.
She has given me the task of speeding up the PC and making it useable for my
6 year old grand-daughter to play games, brows the web, etc.
I have a Windows XP Pro Disc with productKey. I also have a Windows XP Home
Disc with product key
(I run Windows XP Pro both on my own PC & Laptop)
Any advice in this regard will be appreciated.

If the product key is unused then you ***may*** install WinXP
on your daughter's PC. Whether you ***should*** is another
question: The machine will run considerably slower under WinXP
than under Win2000, in particular if it has less than 256 MBytes
of RAM.

Depending on the specs of your computer you might be better off reinstalling
Windows 2000.

Windows XP will not improve the performance of the computer.
You would need an additional license to do this anyway.

Clean install Windows 2000 and get more system memory.

Please give the specs for the computer. The other posters have indicated
that XP may be inappropriate depending on it's age. That may well be but
without the specs no one can really say. Give the make and model, memory,
hard drive size, etc.

Will investigate and let you know
How do I obtain those specs out of a Win 2000 machine?
