Maxtor OneTouch HardDisk Problems....

Hi folks.
i have the following problem with my USB external Harddisk:
i can see it in the explorer as <local harddisk> but i havn't access to
it. The
problem began as i turned off the electric supply off the external drive,
when my PC was hanged.
I couldn't deactivate the HDD correctly with the Icon <remove Hardware
safely>.

Now i can't read the HDD anymore.

is there a possibility to recover the HDD without format ???

System : Win XP, SP2, USB 2.0

1st try an XP repair install,

or you could try ExplorerXP. Its worth a go to see if it recognises any
data.

otherwise it might be recovery software such as Acronis.

Check in Admin Tools\Event Viewer for errors\warnings. Double click them to
see what they are. While in Admin tools, check Disk management to see if the
drive shows there. It will say if it thinks the drive is healthy.

Hi there...
thanks a lot for your informations.. I tried 2 days (and nights)but i can't
fix it. So i formated the drive. No it works without problems...

I will think about a new backup strategy for my data.
