Maximum supported memory

Generally speaking if the specs posted for a motherboard show memory
supported as 400/333MHz will 266 work? Perhaps not as well as the
levels shown but should it work? I'm guessing the 400 means the fastest
supported.

Yes but it depends on the CPU speed and the BIOS.
