Maximum memory of Vaio laptop

Do all Sony Vaio laptops use the same type of memory? If yes what is the
maximum total memory which can be installed?

My Vaio is a PCG-GR215SP and presently only has 512Mb.

They don't all take the same type of RAM. Yours has 2 slots which can take
256MB of PC133 SDRAM each. So you have the maximum already:

Here's the Sony page linking to the manual for your laptop:

GT,

Thanks for this. I was hoping to double up to 1GB as 512MB is much too low
for a couple of my applications. Fortunately I have a desktop with 2GB
memory so its not such a problem. However I am curious as to why a single
Vaio module is limited to 256MB?

I guess that was the restriction of the chipset or motherboard
manufacturer's decision at the time. Perhaps 256MB DIMMS were the largest
available at the time. You have 2GB on your desktop, but that will probably
not be enough in a couple of years and we will wonder why they limited
things there too. Its just the way things are!
