Maximum Memory in Windows XP

My PC is equipped with 4GB RAM. At system boot-up the
BIOS can 'read' all 4GB. However Windows XP Pro from 'My
Computer ---> Propoerties' only identifies 3GB of RAM.

Is there a maximim limit of memory supported ?

Is there a setting in the registry somewhere that I need
to tamper ?
