Max size of C drive partition

What is the maximum partition size allowed on the C: drive? I used Partition
Magic to set the size and if I go larger than about 8Gig, I get a message
that I have gone past 1024 cylinder boundary and the partition may not be
bootable.

Is this message accurate? I have seen PCs with C: drive sizes in the 18 and
20 Gig sizes.

Well mine is 120Gig if that gives you any idea. I think you will find that
partition magic is warning about compatibility with older OS.

Ignore if you are using XP. Older OS's may not boot if a partition is
created beyond the 1024 boundry.

Are you sure you don't mean minimum size?

That only applies to some older operating systems and BIOSes that do not
use the disk in what is called 'LBA' mode. Provided your BIOS setup
shows that the disk *is* working in LBA mode, C can be as big as you
like. I would not myself make it too big; keep data separate from
System and programs, so that in case of real trouble you can restore the
system without losing data

Partition Magic 8 (or higher) can handle the newer , larger drivers. Any
version lower may not.
