max format

computer can't open them. I'm a novice and really need

If these files are .max they may be PaperPort files
and there is a viewer at this link that may allow you
to open them:
http://www.scansoft.com/paperport/viewers/default.asp

If the files are actually .mix files, they can be opened
in any Picture It! program, and some of the components
of Microsoft Office....Publisher, Word, Etc.

Also the shareware program PolyView will open most
..mix files:
