Master Volume Control does not work

I have a very strange problem occurring on my Intel PC. I am using MS Win
XP.
My Master Volume Control does not seem to work at all. I can Maximize,
Minimize or Mute the volume level without any affect on my sound output at
all. If I use the Wave Volume Control I can adjust my volume and the sound
level for Windows Media Player. It is only Master Volume Control that seems
to be bypassed some how. Help?

I am only guessing at this one but I had a similar problem not too long ago
and I remember that the problem was in Windows Media Player. Try opening
Media Player and clicking on play volume and making sure that this is not
muted. When I had a similar problem I had to dig around for some time but
the problem was ultimately with Windows Media Player.

The problem I'm having is that for some reason the maximum volume level of
my system has been greatly diminished (barely audible). This problem has just
started in the last couple of days and I have already checked Windows Media
Player and everything else I can think of. My master volume controls i.e the
different sliders, don't work due to the loss of that capability after a
system restore. The only way I can adjust the volume is with the button on my
keyboard and the volume control within the player.

I would appreciate any and all help.
