master browser question

Hi there,
Is it possible to make 2 machines master browsers for a remote subnet
or it would cause some sort of conflict?
I mean to set the settings isdomainmaster to true and
maintainserverlist to yes in registry?
My goal is to prevent another machine to become master browser which I
already set the above settings to "No" and to have a backup of the
master browser if the other one is not powered up for that remote
subnet.
Thank you, T

No, you can only have one Master Browser, but you can have Potential
Browsers (Backup Browsers) and you can have the Master Browser decided
by browser elections. Machines can be set to participate or not in the
elections and the winner will be decided by a predetermined pecking
order. Having browser elections will assure that another machine will
be elected when the preferred Master Brower machine is down.

The default settings will allow for elections and one winner will
become the master browser. Another will take over if it becomes
unavailable. If there is a machine that you absolutely don't want to
become the master browser, the preferred method is to stop the
"Computer Browser" Service on that machine and prevent it from running
at startup. No registry edits required.

(Right-click "My Computer" -> Manage -> Services and Applications ->
Services -> Dbl-Click "Computer Browser" then
Startup Type: Manual or Disabled
Click "Stop" button if available.

HTH,
John
