Master browser issue

Hi everyone

Here's what's happening. I have a brand new XP SP2 system in a workgroup
called DEALER. When i try My Network Places, it gives me a message "DEALER is
not accessible... The list of servers is not available."

When i connect another PC to that workgroup. I'm able to browse the network
just fine on both of them. As soon as i disconnect the second PC, i loose the
browsing.

I tried to run the application called Master Browser Toolkit. I configured
the pc to be the a Master Browser or Backup browser. I should then be able to
browse even if the system is all alone. But it doesn't work.

If i reconnect the second pc and configure it to prevent to be a Master
browser or backup. It stops working.

It seems that i cannot do anything on the first system to make it a master
Browser or backup browser.

The first PC uses the adress 192.168.0.1 with 255.255.255.0 for the netmask.
I didn't configure any Gateway and DNS.

The second PC uses the adress 192.168.0.2 no gateway and no DNS.

What the hell am I missing.

A little note. When i configured this pc, i was connected to our local
domain. I never joined the domain. I only used the DHCP to gain access to the
Internet for a while. I was already in the workgroup "DEALER". Even the
computers in the domain couldn't seen the workgroup DEALER.

And finally yes i could ping both ways.

Help would be appreciate.

Nick,

I have never used a "Master Browser Toolkit", so I can't advise you on that.
Setting the master browser is not an issue for a toolkit, as far as I know.

Let's start from the beginning. How about you provide "browstat status" and
"ipconfig /all" from each computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this
article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download
browstat!):
