Master Browser event id 8003

Hi,
On my master DNS server i always receive an error in
the system event log.

Source: MrXSmb
Id: 8003
Message: The master browser received a server announcement
from the computer TC-PA-XP that believes that it is the
master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_
{88837C15-E14B-4152-. The master browsers is stopping or
and election is being forced.

My DNS server is a Windows 2000 Server and TC-PA-XP is a
laptop running on Windows XP Pro. we are in a Active
directory domain.

I already check the registry
key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
Browser\Parameters\IsDomainMaster" and it is already set
to "FALSE".

Which other things could i check to prevent this event to
appear.

thanks!

Set the Computer Browser service to disabled on the computers that are not
expected to be the Browse Master.

"If this service is stopped, this list will not be updated
or maintained."

Does it mean his computer list will not be updated or it
means that he will receive the list from a master browser?

thanks!

It just means it won't participate in the election process. It will still
retrieve the list from the Master Browser. The error is probably happening
because the actual MB is not responding in a timely fashion.

And what is the best practice for that?

I mean, we have a active directory domain with multiple
site, one DNS server and one DC per site, we have a
majority of Windows XP PRO or 2000 PRO on the network and
some rare windows 95 or 3.1....

Do you suggest me to disable all computer's
services "computer browser" and let only the one of server
DNS/DC up?

is it the best practice?

thanks!

That's a good point Guillaume. No, I would not consider that 'best
practice'. Rebecca Chen from MS posted a link suggesting UDP forwarding
being enabled on the router may be a cause of this. Have you looked at that
possibility?

Is WINS in use on the network?

Yes Wins is enabled on the network.

since i stopped the computer browser service on the laptop
the events had stopped.

for the routeur the laptop and the dns server are on the
same subnet, they don't have to pass throught the routeur
to talk to each other.

thanks!
