mash up dell 4600 and 8200

Hi,

I am a novice at computer hardware but am not shy of experimenting. I
have a dell 8200 which does not boot up (even with a good hard drive). I
am pretty sure the processor works, it is just that the graphics card
has gone bad so I don't see anything on the screen. I also have a dell
4600 which works fine.

My question is: can I change parts of dell 4600 into dell 8200? How can
I figure out which components can be replaced in dell 8200 with those in
dell 4600?

Thanks.

most everything should be transferable.

PCI to PCI port (sound cards -network -modem -wireless -USB- Controllers-older video)

AGP port to AGP port (Video) Only Integrated video? (on the mainboard) then you will need
a PCI or AGP add on card

See the systems' spec at support.dell.com.

For example: the 8200 uses RDRAM memory, which is completely incompatible
with the DDR in the 4600. If your 4600 has a graphics card (rather than
onboard video), you may be able to use it in the 8200. (The 8200 uses a 1.5V
AGP 4x/2x card. The AGP 8x/4x card in the 4600 may be backwards compatible.)

To state the obvious, it would be unfortunate to damage parts from the 4600
in trying to diagnose the 8200.

Good luck.

Return address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.
