My co-worker was sent a document with markups. How do you save this document
without the markups? If this document is protected (the markups) there is
probably no way to save it without the markups?

Word 2000

If the document is not password-protected, you can just unprotect it. If
there is a password (and you don't know it), see if using Save As to a new
file removes the protection. If not, try opening a new document and using
Insert | File. This works for protected forms--not sure about protection for
Track Changes.

Along the same lines, I have a situation where my mgr marked up a
document of mine. I turned off markup in the View menu (and later also
tried in the Review toolbar), saved and when I re-opened the doc the
next day it was opened in markup mode (I could see red text and deleted
bubbles were in the right margin. I tried it again today, where I saved
with markup turned off and when I re-opened and it was in effect.

Is there a way to save without markup and have it stick?

You are not saving "without markup." You're just hiding it. If you really
want to *remove* the markup, you need to Accept All Changes in Document and
Delete All Comments in Document. If you just don't want to see the markup,
you can (at your own risk) clear the check box on the Security tab of Tools
| Options to "Make hidden markup visible when opening or saving," but note
that there's a reason this is a Security option.
