margins limited by installed printer?

I want to set up a document to be printed on a printer not installed on my
computer. Word 2002 won't let me set margins to have a printable area bigger
than my printer can handle, even if the paper size is large--it just sets
super-large margins. Suggestions, please?

The maximum page size in Word is 22" x 22"; are you trying to make your page
larger than that? Otherwise, you must install the driver for the printer
you're going to print from; Word can use only the paper sizes provided by
the currently selected printer driver.

Thanks for the reply. No, it's smaller. But the wizard asks me to browse for
a printer. Is there a way to install the driver for a printer that my
computer is not connected to?

Yes, certainly. If it's one of the many printer models that Windows
knows about, you can choose it in the Add Printer dialog (Start >
Settings > Printers & Faxes > Add Printer) -- the actual hardware
isn't needed.

In the Add Printer dialog, choose a local printer and don't check the
box for automatic detection. When you get to choose a port, select
"FILE: (Print to File)".

If the Add Printer dialog doesn't offer the model you need, you'll
have to get the manufacturer's driver. You may be able to download it
from their web site, or you can borrow the installation CD from the
person who does have the hardware.
