Maping a network drive

Subject: Maping a network drive

Hi,

I have a remote server running 2003 sitting on it own IP. I configured it to accept incoming connections. Also, on my home XP professional, I set up a connection to the remote server. So far, so good.

However:

1. When connecting to the remote computer I loose my "regular" internet connection, so I can't realy do anything including email and web browsing.

2. Assuming we get over #1 - how can I map a drive on the local XP machine to the remote computer?

Thanks,

I'm presuming you mean you're using VPN, although you don't say so. You can
untick "use remote gateway" in your VPN connection properties. If you're
sure you're connecting from a secured network, that is.... or fix the RRAS
stuff on the server so it allows you to use it as a remote gateway.

net use x: \\server\share /<server or domain name>\username <enter>

Presuming name resolution is working across the VPN link, that is.
Otherwise, substitute the LAN IP address for server.
