MAPI32.dll error

After I uninstalled a HP Scanner software, I got below error message and
failed to open Outlook when I opened Office Outlook 2003.

Microsoft Office Outlook

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong
version. This could have been caused by installing other messaging
software. Please reinstall Outlook.

Can someone advise what the possible causes and fixes.

Just suspect if there is any relationship between scanner and Outlook.

Not per se, but what is likely is that the scanner has some function that
uses MAPI transports and it placed its own version of the MAPI32.dll in your
system files which Outlook cannot use.
Outlook will often fix this for you automatically the next time you start it
with its fixmapi utility. When it can't it will ask you to reinstall.
Another alternative is to find and rename your MAPI32.dll file and then run
Outlook's Detect and Repair.
