Map network printer - Windows XP

Hi All,

I'm just in the process of large migration from NT4 - Win2003 (server),
and NT4 - XP (client).

In regards to printing we will be consolidation 30+ servers back to a
few centralised servers. I want to be able to make the client printer
mapping as seamless as possible.

Was planning to run scripts to capture workstation current printers,
then once the print servers are migrated and the users receives their
new XP workstation, use this information to run another script and map
them to the new queues.

I know there was a utility called Con2prt.exe that was released as part
of the zero-admin kit. Is this tool supported under XP. Or has a newer
version been released?

Or is there a better method to simply map to a network printer via
command line. I do not need to concern myself with locally attached
printers, only network printers.

I simply want to gather the current settings from the NT4 workstation
(printer queue path, default printer). Create a mapping table that has
old printer queue path = new printer queue path. Then create a script
which performs the lookup and connects to the correct path, I assume if
you point it to the right printer path, the driver will simply then
just be downloaded.

Cheers
Anthony.

The con2prt.exe works fine with xp. I use that utility and the ifmember
utility to assign printers to users based on what ad printer group they
belong to.
