Map network drive

Working with XP Pro at home. I'm connected to our lan at work via VPN. I
can "map to the network drive" successfully. In fact I can map to several
network drives as I do every day. But there's one that isn't showing up in
"my network places" even though it appears that I map successfully.

I'm actually not getting any error messages. I get mapped ok but the drive
doesn't appear in either windows explorer or my computer. As a workaround,
I've established a connection in "my network places".

After further exploration and after a couple of hours on the phone with our
company help desk, I think I've discovered the problem but we can't figure
out how to solve it. When I map the network drive and go into "System
Information" then "Network Connections" there are TWO entries for the drive.
Both have the same remote name but the local names are different. One has
"Z:" which is the letter I assigned when I mapped the drive. The other has a
local name of "Not Available". My tech guy tried to disconnect via the "net
use" command in dos but I still couldn't get the drive to show up in
microsoft explorer or my computer. Funny thing, though. I'm able to go to
dos and type in "z:" and it appears.
