Map drive to local drive..

Ok.
1. Create folder c:\share and then go to properties and create/name share.
2. right click my computer go to 'map network drive'
3. try to browse to local machine c:\share ... I can't get to the local
machine unless I go thru the 'entire network'.. and then ONLY if the machine
is connected to a network...ANY network. (the machine belongs to a
domain...and we login away from the domain using cache).

So...anytime that I am NOT connected... I can't map this drive..or worse
yet, my wireless connection goes down and my mapped drive is dosconnected,
therefore bringing my mapped app crashing to the floor. (Trying to decide if
i want 5.8 ghz wireless network cards, or 5.8 phones...and I will take
comments on this issue as well.)
So, what's the solution? How do I map to the local machine?
Will I have to create local user and login that way?

Can I ask why you would want to do this instead of just going straight to
c:\share ?

Yes. On my network, I have an application that I map to the G:\\drive on all
the workstations. The applicaton is a CRM product (Goldmione) that keeps
track of all correspondence, including email. Since it is mapped to the the
G drive, all internal stored procedures of the app point towards the G drive.
I synch with the app via tcp back to my office. IF I use the C:
drive...then the stored references in the app point to the C drive. When the
synch occurs...then it points to the C: drive of the workstation that it is
being run on...and obviously the files aren't there. So anytime we try to
view any correspondence , the link is rendered useless. I've been running the
app since early 90's, I would lose email correspondence, contracts, etc used
for historical reference to clients and projects. I have the latest version
of the app and will upgrade again when the new version comes out.
This has never been an issue until recently. I could always map the local
copy to the G drive...and everything worked fine. Even if I wasn't on a
network, the drive remained mapped, and I never had problems with it.
It is the configuration as suggested by the vendor as well. It's not
something I dreamed up to make something work.
I'm going thru policies, but I don't see anytning that would keep it from
mapping at this point. I have full time connections nearly everywhere I go,
so I can live with it if forced, but from time to time it's a pain.
This is a tablet, running XP for Tablet as an OS.
