I have read dozens of postings on sharing problems but have been
unable to figure out how to remedy my problem. I have an XP machine
networked to an NT machine through a router and everything works OK
including sharing both ways EXCEPT that the XP machine cannot see the
D: drive. I have tried everything I can find that might have an
impact but so far no luck. I hope someone can solve this seemingly
simple problem. Thanks in advance.

We need a better description of the problem. Do you mean that you cannot
see the share when you browse to \\servername or that you cannot access the
share when you click on it? Can you connect to \\servername\D$ ? What
about \\servername\D ? Or did you share the D: drive with a different name?

Thanks for getting back to me. I have set up both C: and D: on the NT
machine so that sharing is enabled. I can see, connect to and use C:
and any of its subdirectories. D: is not visible on the XP machine
although it looks just the same as the C: drive on the NT machine,
i.e. you can see the hand under the ikon for the drive.

D: is the larger drive and I wanted to use it for backing up my XP
machine.

If there is any other info needed please let me know. I hope my
answers are responsive - I am not exactly sure of your notation above.
