many "automatic" services not starting; errors 11003, 10093, etc..

i've been messing around with whatever i can to fix network connectivity
(thats for a different thread). somehow, i made it so that many services are
not able to start, including messenger, dchp, firewall/ics, and many other
crucial services. trying to start them only causes various error messages,
such as 11003, 11093, or 'dependency failed to start', or others. i thought
the cause was a selective startup with msconfig, but after setting it to
'normal startup', the problem remains.

how can i get all the services to function again?
thanks.

Have you checked their settings in control panel--administration
tools---services???????

yes, they are set to 'automatic', but are not actually starting. some of them
will start if i click 'start' (but will again be off at next login), but many
will not even start then, citing some errors which i do not know how to solve.

isnt there a way to default all windows settings?

i cannot do system restore because the restore points were erased when i
used msconfig.
