manually reconnecting internet

When I put my laptop computer (Windows XP Pro) on standby,
it disconnects my LAN network connection. I'm told this
feature is by design and I need to manually reconnect this
connection to use the Internet again. Is there a way to do
this without restarting my computer?

Try going to Settings -> Network connections.
Just click on it and it should re-connect.

Disable the network connection before going into Standby. Enable the
network connection after resuming from Standby.
