Manual Uninstall of Rogue Programs

Windows 2000 Professional. I am preping a older system to send to one of our
people in the field. I needed to clean a bunch of old programs from the
system before sending it. Anyhow, Some stuff cleanly uninstalled and some
stuff (as expected) did not. I have manually deleted files and folders for
these uninstallable rogues. I thus have a number of programs I suspect have
registry entries that need to be cleaned up. Hence, the questions:

How do I clean these programs (entries) from the registry?
Are there any other taks I need to perform to completely uninstall these
rogues? Thanks.

It might be faster and it would give you a far superior machine if
you re-installed Win2000 from scratch. You can search the registry
for certain strings but you can never be sure to catch all of them and
not to delete something that is essential.
