Management Console User/Group Item error

Starting w/a workgroup sharing error I have found that one of my computers is
not allowing me to manage "Local Users and Groups" from the Management
Console. Error message is "Unable to access the computer THINKPAD. The
error was: Library not registered". I have already fixed a MSDTC service
start error by reinstalling it, I have reapplied SP2, and i have also reset
security settings. I have also uninstalled almost all apps. Short of system
rebuilding I am at a loss to resolve this problem. Any help would be
appreciated.

That is a tough one. I searched Google for a bit and could not find any
definitive answer to your problem. You could try using lusrmgr.msc to see if
that works but it probably will not. Try doing a System Restore if you have
a restore point available before this all happened. Otherwise I would do a
upgrade/repair install which may fix the problem and preserve you data and
applications though require that you first install your service pack [if not
slipstreamed on the install disk] and then all critical security updates
from Windows Updates. If you decide to do a pristine install to a formatted
system drive be sure to decrypt any files that may be encrypted with EFS
first. --- Steve

Thanks for the response. I eventually solved the sharing problem/mounting
problem to another computer by starting a bunch of services and then
resharring the drive thru the folder properties sharing wizzard, but the mmc
error still remaing. I will try your response but for now my more pressing
problem w/sharing has been solved.

BTW way back I used direct access to gpc to try and do something, maybe that
led to this problem.

Thanks again
