Malware has taken over my Internet Explorer

I visisted a website and it quickly installed a bunch of crap on my PC.
Malware I believe. I've got rid of a ton of stuff so far. Files based on bad
programs that were running in my background and the processes controlling
them, some taskbar spammer, a bunch of stuff detected by Ad-aware (which were
causing my PC to crash so I had to manually pause Ad-aware after each item
found to let it delete before it got to whatever was making it crash), etc.

All the stuff that was running on my destop, Processes or Applications,
taskbar, etc appears to be gone. Ad-aware and HouseCall's web-based
virus/malware/etc scanner come up clean now.

However, my Internet Explorer is still hijacked. It instantly loads some
site after going to my default "about: blank" homepage, and whenever I click
links it often opens pop-ups, new windows, etc.

I'm not sure how to go about getting rid of any of it.

Thanks.

p.s. All the junk is anti-virus related. Ironic that this malware crap was
created just to advertise their anti-malware crap.

Try:

1. Tools | Manage Add-ons
2. Make sure Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer is in drop-down
list
3. Look through Enabled list for anything that doesn't belong there ...
unknowns usually stick out ... specifically toolbars and popups.
4. Disable it.

If you find one, disable it, and your problem disappears ... that's the one.
You can then delete it from the registry permanently.

Please review the procedures used to remove malware here:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

If you didn't do the preparation/finishing work and you didn't scan in
Safe Mode, follow the steps at the link above.

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the link above (not here, please).

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).
