Hi!
I have a problem with my XP, could you please help me out with this?

As soon as my comp is turned on, i get:

Unable to loacte file :C:\Windows\System\lsass.exe

I checked my friend's XP folders (system32 and system), and i found all

files in order. No lsass.exe was present in his system folder. So why

is it asking me? Besides, there was 1 extra file: 111.dat . I have

quarantined it using McAffe.

I also have spywares on my comp, and am unable to remove it:

1.> c:\Windows\system32\autorun3.exe

2. c:\documents and settings\guest\local settings\temporary internet

files\content.ie5\KYSEM4VO\setup[1].exe

I am aslo unable to:
1.Use Windows Task Manager. The dialogue box states:

"Task Manager Has been disabled by your administrator"

2. I am unable to change the view options in my folders.

3. The "RUN" in the startup menu is missing.

Looking forward to a sppedy response.
Thank you.

mc afee is an antivirus and not a
anti spyware, therefore you know
that you are in need of an anti virus.

i suggest spybot and spyware terminator.

afterwards, you will likely need to do
a repair install with your win setup cd
to repair / replace those system files that got corrupted. the repair install will
also delete the system restore points since
your the o.s. will basically be reset to
a genuine state.

as a tip: when you run the spywares, you
should turn off your antivirus temporarily...

You (or your friend, I can't figure out how your friend's computer comes
into this from your post but it doesn't really matter) have a badly
infected computer. You can try and clean it, but it will be a complex
process requiring a fairly high level of skill. I don't know your
computer skills, so you can make that determination yourself. I'll give
you standard virus/malware removal steps below. The only alternative to
going through the malware removal tediously and systematically, probably
with online help from an HJT forum, and taking the machine to a real
professional is to back up your data and do a clean install of Windows.
It's your call.

Go through these general malware removal steps systematically -
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Include scanning with either Sysclean or Multi_AV, plus AVG Anti-Spyware
(formerly Ewido - http://www.ewido.net/en/) and follow instructions to
do all scans in Safe Mode.

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the link above (not here, please).

Standard caveat: If the procedures look too complex - and there is no
shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA). Please be aware that not all local shops are skilled at
removing malware and even if they are, your computer may be so infested
that Windows will need to be clean-installed. Have all your data backed
up before you take the machine into a shop.
