Making Theft Right

I have been using the FKGWP bootleg copy of XP Pro.
Bought a OEM version and new want to make it right.
Tried OObe trick to put in new Product Key but it would
not take it, said I misstyped but I didn't. Now WHAT?

If I have to reinstall, is there anyway to keep all my
old settings for other users (screens, start menus etc.)?

I am about to add a new HD. If I install the legit copy
on the new HD, can I just transfer the documents and
setting folder from the old install to the new? What
other files will I have to transfer to make it work like
the old install?

You can keep all old settings this way:
Purchase Windows XP Pro (Home will not work) and perform a Repair
Installation using the new valid key and CD:

Data should be safe. Back-up important data just in case.
