Making progress, but can't get rid of dual boot

If you saw my post from yesterday, I now have C: D: E: with XP home on C: and
(looks like) a remnant on D: which causes me to get 2 WinXP home boot options.
Booting the first, everything's fine. Booting the second gives me a
corruption error.
I have "formatted" d: and there are no files on it except for a hidden
"System volume Folder" with (apparently) nothing in it.
Anyway, I'd like to get rid of the second boot option. How do I do that?
Also, can I blow away that "system volume folder" on D:? How?

Thanks for everything,
Rob

Edit the BOOT.INI file.
