Making open diaglogue box larger?

When you click on open you get to see a dialogue box from which to select
the file you require. This box is very small & only displays a few files.
Is there any way to make it larger so that you can see more files at once?

I don't know why you would not have a dragable sizing area on the lower right corner of that dialog.

Some applications fix the size of the Open dialog. If you can't click and
drag it larger from the lower-right corner, the only possible solution is to
increase your screen resoluion (and this may not work either.)
