Making clips from an AVI file

Curt

I have an AVI video (XviD) that I would like to take specific short
clips from. What is the best freeware to accomplish this? I would like
to keep the video in XviD or DivX format. I also do not want to use
Windows Movie Maker - I tried that, it took a long time, and I wasn't
happy with the results (I also don't want a WMV file).

Thanks!

VirtualDub

VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for
Windows platforms . It is streamlined for fast linear
operations over video. It has batch-processing
capabilities for processing large numbers of files
and can be extended with third-party video filters.
VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing
AVI files. Also built-in capturing and video frameserving.

I also recommend VirtualDub. Also, be sure to see freeware addons to
enhance VDub: VirtualDubMod & VirtualDub-Mpeg2 [freeware]. [Actually,
I believe that VirtualDub Mod also contains VirtualDubMPeg2,
VirtualDubOGM, VirtualDubAVS.]

You'll find download links and some excellent tutorials etc at

As the OP said, be sure to pay attention to the specific requirements
for direct stream mode!
