Making a form--I want a line that people can type data onto...

So, my form will have a piece of information like:

Name: ______________________________

I'd like it to look like that both on the computer screen and on the printed
page,. I'd like for the computer-screen-user to be able to type their name
onto the line, without leaving a non-underlined gap or having an awkward
out-of-kilter line under the typed words when it prints out.

At the same time, I'd like to also be able to print the form and hand it to
someone for them to fill out, with the lines on the printed page for them to
use.

I've learned the basics of "Form Fields". And I think that I can underline a
text form field. But I don't know how to create a document that has the line
be the length I'd want if I was printing it, and at the same time show up
that way on the computer screen and allow typing onto it. Perhaps if I new
how to resize a text form field, I could accomplish what I want...is that it,
or is there another solution? Thanks.

Maybe this will help. (I have to admit that I create my forms in Acrobat so
I've never used Word's features.)

The easiest way to obtain and to control the layout you want is to use a
table. Add table borders where you want lines to appear (the column width
determines the line length). For example, type "Name:" in one cell without
borders and insert the related text form field in a cell with a bottom border.

You could also add floating text boxes with no fill and no border
which they click into to type. Just another idea, either will work
okay!

But note that in a protected form you will have to use table cells (and
possibly frames) instead of text boxes.
