Hi
I've just got a new machine with XP pro.
After putting in my windows password, an exe file called
MakeMrk.exe runs (I can see cmd.exe & then MakeMrk.exe
dos boxes on my screen).
I've tried reinstalling operating system & all virus
checks without luck.
Can anyone tell me what this is, and if I can get rid of
it?
Many thanks

If you have done a full reinstall could it be anything todo with one of your
drivers? i.e. software which goes with the driver rather than the driver
itself?

Where is the .exe located on your HDD?

That's strange. The filename does not get any hits in Google.
Probably not a part of Windows.

I am getting a similar problem. At the moment I have a feeling it
might be a problem with some of the programs running at start-up (I
have mcafee security centre which has anti-virus and firewall software
and a nokia connector program).

It seems - though I'm not sure - that when these programs run before
the makemrk script I get the problem, makemrk dos window just pauses
for a while and after that it won't connect to the wireless network. I
have tried uninstalling both mcafee and nokia but that hasn't sorted
the problem. I've also tried reinstalling wireless drivers but again,
no difference.

Any ideas? What does makemrk.exe do, there is no reference to it
anywhere on the web from what I can see.
FYI, I have a Toshiba Tecra s1 running windows xp pro.

thanks

Further to my earler message on this issue, for me makemrk.exe is
located in the windows system folder.

Go so fed up with this that I took the machine back to
the supplier. They got a new one out of the box & ran set
up. Would you believe the same problem, so it can't be
third party software.

I've got no joy (surprise) from Toshibe support, who
don't seem to know what it does.

Suppliers will take the machine back, any suggestions as
to a suitable alternative? I used to have a toshiba
satellite pro, which I was very fond of.

Thanks

This does seem to be a Toshiba related issue as I also have a Toshiba,
a Tecra S1 and Makemrk.exe also runs on mine when I start up.
It's initiated by once.bat which runs from the startup group. I've
removed this file from the Startup and so makemrk.exe does now not run
anymore and I don't seem to have any untoward side-effects.
Regards,

Steve
