I have a Win ME Startup floppy Disk which I wish to
convert into a CD. Could someone pls. tell me how to do
it, like which extra files to copy. I have Nero Burning
Rom and Windows XP Pro installed. This is really
important because floppys are unreliable and slow and the
Windows XP Startup Disk is actually of no use as it
doesnt have DOS at all. I also wish to make the 2
Partition Magic 8 bootdisks into 1 CD.

Making as bootable CD with Nero is easy as pie. Just start Nero Express and
click on Data->Bootable Data disc. Pop your Windows Me floppy into the
drive. If you wish you can copy DOS programs into the Add window and these
will be available when you boot off the CD. After you click Next select the
option for "Read boot disk in drive" before you burn the CD. Nero will read
the floppy and use it to create it's boot image. The boot image will not be
visible from Windows but will be from DOS as you will see below.

When you boot off the CD it will assign itself as "drive A" because it
thinks it's a floppy. So The Windows Me floppy will be emulated. If you copy
additional files to the CD from Nero's Add window these files will be
accessible through the CD-Rom drive letter. Confusing? Not really just boot
with the CD and make certain you select the option to Start with CD-Rom
support. At the command prompt you can run all the apps like FDISK, FORMAT
etc from A just as you would from the Windows Me Startup floppy. But if you
copied the Partition Magic files to the CD then from the command prompt
change to the CD-Rom drive letter first and then run pqmagic.exe

You might want to experiment with a CD-R/W until you get this right.
Warning --- creating bootable CDs can be addictive. Here is a link

Please be aware that you will *NOT* be able to access any NTFS partitions
from DOS.

In Nero - New and select CDRom (Boot) in the left panel. Have your
floppy in the drive and it will show up as 'bootable logical drive' in
the panel. You can then add to the regular compilation panel any files
you want to be accessible (as if on a normal CD) at the time you boot it
but that on its own is all you *need*
