I'm having some major conflicts with Norton Internet Security Professional 2004 (NISP2004). Some of the conflicts are exactly the same as I've seen on this first page I've looked at. Problems with Windows Update ( Error 0x800A138F) , System Restore doesn't go back before today (on 12-04-3 tried to go back to 3 different points, but it would't restore to any of those points...and yes, I have plenty of room on my HD.), "Wupdater.exe" "end now" message appears after turning off my computer, and a few other minor annoyances i can't remember right now.
I had NONE of these problems BEFORE I installed NISP2004 , only after. My NISP problems started small (difficulty accessing Norton's "LiveUpdate" website) but soon grew into a disaster of major proportions as I tried each of the Symantec technician's "solutions". How Major ? NISP2004 will NOT allow itself to be removed/deleted/disabled !!!
I know that this is a Windows XP General Discussion Page, and NISP is NOT "Windows", but the problems are connected and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Thank You ! Robin

I've been thinking about upgrading from 2002 to 2004 but
for all the people who are having problems with norton I
dont think so.
Good Luck with your problem!!!

I don't like to disparage any products. However,McAfee
works much better on my unit. If my friends would switch
they may be happier.

For a company that sells itself as experts on the
internals of PC hardware and software Symantec seems to be
in major denial that many of their recent products have
serious problems.
MacAfee had the same problem several years ago.
I have given up on Norton anything. For virus protection
at home I've switched to Avast. It's free for non-
commercial home use and I just found 3 viruses with it
that Norton AV2003 missed. You can download it at
www.avast.com. It also has a better approach to downloads
and periodic scans.
Other than that I find a cheap hardware firewall that has
NAT and stateful packet inspection coupled with regular
Windows updates does just fine.
Take a look at the Norton support site for articles on how
to manually uninstall their software.
Good luck.
