Major bug in Vista Sidebar

S

scorpionleather

Even when the sidebar gadgets are placed onto the desktop, Windows will
change their position slightly during the next boot. The result is a
jumbled mess on the desktop after a few reboots.

Microsoft cannot argue that the gadgets are started up in any order and
"forget" their positions as "per design", because it still remembers the
"rough" position. It's just not accurate! Since when do computers mess up
on such basic arithmetics as calculating the pixel position correctly?

Must've been some drunk Windows programmer. Looking forward to a fix
arriving in the automatic updates, hopefully soon...

Oddly enough, this "major bug" hasn't been reported by anyone (that
I've noticed) until now. I'm sure that waves of similar reports of a
"drunk Windows programmer" will soon follow now that you've broken the
ice, so to speak.

Thank you for your due diligence in reporting this gravely serious
issue and for bringing it to the forefront of our attention.

Hasn't been happening to me at all, although once in a while one of mine
(the top one, whatever it is at the time) will duplicate. No jumbles, no
other position changes.

well, that side effect does not happen in 7 which would indicate that it
must have been an issue in Vista for them to fix it in 7.

Some people see pink elephants now and then, but most don't. That
must've been fixed in Windows 7 too since it doesn't appear there,
right?

You're a moron.

I have no answer to the question of why you are having that problem,
but I can tell you that I don't have the problem on any of my Vista
machines here. So although *you* may have the problem, it's not
generally true that "Windows will change their position slightly
during the next boot."

Microsoft reported this behaiver here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930277/en

and the workaround from Microsoft is "...restart the computer"

The big company Microsoft have no solution for this little problem, the
sidebar overwrites the entries in settings.ini since Vista release???

Nothing else remains to be done, for Vista 7 ???
