Hello Group:

I am not a Systems Administrator by any means but I am needing to let our
maintenance personnel login in seperately and have access to a 'Maintenance'
Folder as well as one partitioned disk. I am able to create a seperate login
for them but the 'Maintenance' Folder on Desktop which I created does not
allow access.

I think that I need to put the 'Maintenance' Users into a group with certain
privledges and that is where I need assistance.

Thanks,

Michael

I am not a security expert either but there seems to be one thing that maybe
you could answer that springs to mind. (By the way I am a maintenance person
and you better treat them well or someday when you want something fixed -
who knows :)

When you say maintenance folder on desktop which desktop do you mean? Do you
mean the desktop (screen) that they get when they log in, someone else's
desktop on the same machine (say the administrator desktop) or are you
meaning "Desktop" as in a machine....with the folder on a server or
something?

Maybe it's me but I don't see the "Plan" clearly, it is early in the morning
here :) and security is a concern in what you want to do, although you know
your situation and how critical that will be.

What I would do is set up outlook express as your newsreader (It's better
than the lousy Web interface) so you can search for groups easily (there are
hundreds) and follow response threads easily. You will also be able to
search posts for keywords quickly which means you have a chance of finding
any future questions already answered.

There are some setup details here
http://www.charlietame.org/oe/newsgroups.htm

And this link will bring you back to this group

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

When you post back can you mention whether this is one machine that will be
used by several people or whether the maintenance crew will need access to a
"Server" of some kind. It sounds like you will get a more detailed answer
from one of the server newsgroups where you'll find people with lots of
experience at setting up 'Groups".
