Maintaining icon arrangement in a folder

D

Developer

Hello,
I have several folders on my desktop, each devoted to a different project.
Each folder contains shortcuts specific to the project -- command shell
opens in a certain dir, editor starts and loads the appropriate project,
links to the project's help file, etc.

When I shutdown and restart Windows, the icons in the folders are sorted by
name. Today, Explorer crashed for some reason; when I opened one of my
desktop folders, the icons were sorted by name, not arranged as I last
arranged them.

Is there any way to prevent Windows from changing the arrangement of the
shortcuts in these folders?

Thanks for any tips.

Suggestion and tip:

Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
