Mailto: Issue IE7 and OL2003

P

Pat Garard

G'Day All,

If I click a 'mailto' link in IE7, the following behaviour occurs:
the IE7 Title bar flashes (there is no associated message box)
A concurrent session of Outlook 2003 is unaffected - no new e-mail appears.
After about one minute IE7 terminates.

I do not know how long this problem has existed.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

In Windows Folder Options | File Types check the URL Mailto Proticol.
I have it as :
Action: open
Application used to perform action:
"C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\Office10\OUTLOOK.EXE" -c IPM.Note /m "%1"
Note yours might be different since I"m quotign for Outlook 2003.

Use DDE is checked.

Application:
OULOOK

Hi Bill,

The URL:MailTo Protocol was missing, so I created it anew:
Open

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" -c IPM.Note /m
"%1"

OUTLOOK

DDE

System

I'm afraid it still does not work - IE7 creates multiple (30+) copies of itself
:(

Pat,
That seems to be where the problem was.
A couple of thing you can try to get it set right:
1. Start Outlook with the /checkclient command switch. Just type Outlook.exe
/checkclient in the Windows Run box. That should prompt Outlook to check if
it default for everything and set itself that way.
2. Repair the Outlook installation. Hopefully that will add the correct
associations.
