I'm trying to create an automated reply when email goes
into specific mailbox using Outlook 2002. I want the
reply to send a preset message to the sender, something
like "thank you for your request, it will be dealt with
shortly". You can set this up using the "have server
reply" rule. I want to add my name in the BCC field so I
am notified when mail arrives in that mailbox as well as
the sender being notified. As soon a you add a name to
the BCC field the rule stops working with the error:

"One or more of the rules could not be uploaded to the
exchange server and has been deactivated. This could be
because some of the parameters are not supported or their
is inefficient space to store all of your rules."

This only happens when I try to use the BCC field in the
message box (i.e. if a name is added in the TO or CC
field the rule works fine) I get a similar message when
using Outlook 2000. Any ideas on how to get round
this will be appreciated.

That is correct behaviour for the BCC line but why do you want a copy of
each automated reply? Wouldn't it be better to have the original message?
You're better of with creating a second rule that forwards the message to
you.

thanks for your reply.

The mailbox is a general one which 3 people have access
to so I didn't want each of those 3 people getting a copy
of the message rather just the notifiaction message to
check the mailbox as new mail had arrived. For example,
if the original senders message had an attachment then
all 3 people would get the attacment which increases
email load and misses the point of having a shared access
mailbox. If that is how Outlook is supposed to behave
then I'll have to come up with another idea.

You can use a "Watch Folder" add-in for this;
