Mail shows downloading but no mail

I have a strange problem, I cannot download my mail into my inbox even tho it
says it is downloaded. I had Outlook 2003 and it wouldn't download mail and
would time out. I have quite a large .pst file so I thought perhaps it was
full so I upgraded to 2007. The mail worked again for awhile but now it
shows as the mail being downloaded, ie downloading 2 of 6, 3 of 6 etc, but
there is nothing there! It isn't in any junk or spam folder, I can see the
mail sitting on the server on my webmail, I just can't get it to download on
my machine. I've removed the larger files thinking I may be timed out
because of them, turned off the email scanner, but still nothing. I think
the same thing must have been happening with Outlook 2003 because for the two
weeks it didn't work I couldn't get those emails to download when I upgraded,
so it must have registered that they had been downloaded?? It is a pop3
account, and I have spoken with the tech support at my ISP provider and they
are stumped too. Anyone here have any ideas?

thanks

Are you filtering your view of the Inbox?

For example, if you set your view to see only unread messages and you have
autopreview turned on AND email set to be marked as read after X seconds, you
can see where this would lead to a problem. As soon as the mail is marked
read, you wouldn't be able to see it anymore.

Also check your rules. If you have any misconfigured rules, this could be at
fault as well.

Also, what version of Outlook is your PST from and what size is it? If it
was originally created with an older version of Outlook you may have reached
the size limit of 2 GB.

Thank you for replying. I don't have any rules set so I don't think that is
it. I've read a lot of posts on here with people with similar problems but I
am not sure where you mean with the view. I looked at the toolbar options
under view and I don't see anything under current view that could be it, it
is only on messages. I don't have any filters on that I know of and I don't
use the reading pane. I now have the classic problem others have had that
things are stuck on the ISP server because they are registered as downloaded.

The original .pst was in Office 200, it was upgraded to 2003 then to 2007.
I did this because I read 2007 has no limit as it uses a different format.
Do you think it would be helpful to create a new profile and import the old
messages?

thanks again

If you're still using the same PST that was created in Outlook 2000, check
the size. Even if you're using Outlook 2007, the PST is still limited in size
because it was originally created with an old version of Outlook. The formats
are different and an upgrade doesn't change that.

Hi bg,

please have a look into the "event viewer" under "Application". Check if you
get an entry with "Microsoft Office 12" , doubleclick on this entry and
check if you get an entry with "Officelifeboathang".

I do not have a solution for this error but it is an knowing issue (for us)
that Outlook 2007 do not receive emails if this "Lifeboat" of Ol2007 hangs.

I prefer to deactivate all addins and I would check if "outlook.exe" is
running additional times in the Task Manager.

You can also try to start Outlook in "/safe" mode:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP010031101033.aspx

This wil deactivate all addins by a "Comand line"

Maybe it helps.
