Mail OK but IE won't work!!

Help requested. For unknown reasons my Internet Explorer cannot access any
web pages even though my network connection is ok and news/mail work
normally. I have tried all the usual diagnostics to no avail.
I am using Win XP Home Edition SP2 with all latest updates.
Any ideas?
