mail notification

I am using Outlook Express - 6 2003. When mail arrives all I hear is a
short, little, quiet " eek". I have closed Outlook Express, gone to control
panel, sounds - clicked on Windows mail notification -even changed it to
chimes.wav. then apply. Speaker icon shows, and chimes.wav shows. Still,
only makes a weak "eek" when mail arrives. I had been using Incredimail
(shame on me!) but when mail came I could hear the notification from another
room. With Outlook and Outlook Express if I am not right at my computer
there is no way I hear the notification. What could be wrong????

turn up the volume?
sound card or computer speaker?

Outlook Help Menu Search: Sound
Notify me when new messages arrive
On the Tools menu, click Options.
Click the Preferences tab, and then click E-Mail Options.
Do the following:
Click Advanced E-Mail Options.

Under When new items arrive, select Play a sound.

change the Associated .wav used?

I have done all those steps. Even checked to see if chimes plays. It does -
but it opens Music Match jukebox 10 first. Is that normal when I check the
sound? It then plays the chimes.

You could try changing the file association for .wav's from MusicMatch
to whatever the default is in Windows.

There is an Outlook Express 6 and an Outlook 2003. They are very different
programs. Which are you asking about?

When you go to Control Panel | Sounds and play chimes.wav from there how
does it sound?
