Notification not shown

Hello folks,

I'm using Outlook 2003 on W2K. I have configured the mail options to show a
notification icon when a new mail arrives ("Show an envelope icon in the
notification area" under "Advanced email options").
However, no notification icon is shown when a new mail arrives. I only have
this new Outlook icon in the notification area, but that's always there (how
can I remove that, btw?)

Thanks for any help

Robert

If you have rules set to act upon new mail messages, the notification window
will not appear. Use the Rules and Alerts to set a window if you want this
option. I tend to prefer the option to not have a new mail notification
show every time I get an email - reduces productivity.

Is the envelop in the system tray the same as an alert? Or is an alert a
different feature?
I have the same rules I used in Outlook 2002 (all my mails are handled by
some rule or other), and there I got the envelop symbol whenever I received
a mail.
