Mail not sending from Second Account

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and, especially, if
there is a solution.

I'm using Outlook 2003, and have two accounts setup: and Exchange
account (default) and an IMAP account on another mail server.

The Problem:
When trying to send mail from the IMAP account, I do the following:
1) File->New->Mail Message
2) Compose email; add address
3) Click the "Accounts" control dropdown, and choose the IMAP account
4) A message appears "This message will be sent via <IMAP Account
name>"
5) Send message

After this, the message is sent to the receipient, but via the Exchange
account, NOT the IMAP account.

Not only do the FROM and REPLY-TO fields in the header confirm this,
but the full headers clearly show that the mail originated from the
exchange server, not the IMAP account mail server specified.

Any hints as to what is going on, or how this can be fixed? Is this a
bug?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Are you authenticating with the imap server? did you install outlook sp2
yet? there is a problem in outlook that sends mail on any available SMTP if
the correct one is unavailable - not properly authenticating with the server
is the major cause and it's supposed to be fixed in sp2.

This was exactly the problem. I thought of the SP just after posting
this and after installing it found out that authentication to the
outgoing SMTP server was not working.

I'm working with the server admin to get that fixed right now.

Thank you!
